ROAD CYCLING IN AYLESBURY

We have a strong road cycling section to the Club with regular weekend and weekday rides.

We also like to make sure we have a good showing at the Tour de Vale in support of Wheel Power.

We welcome new members to our Saturday rides.

Where and when?

Saturday Rides

Our main club road rides leave every Saturday at 0900, throughout the year, from the Aqua Vale Swimming and Fitness Centre, right in the middle of Aylesbury.

We currently ride in two groups – FAST and MODERATE and tend to arrive back around 1pm.

Summer Thursday Rides

We also like to take advantage of the lighter evenings during the summer and therefore offer an additional evening ride on a Thursday leaving from Jansel Square at 5 or 5.30, covering 40-50 miles at a reasonable pace and returning around 8pm.

For those not able to start this early a loop is often made to pick up more riders at 6 or 6.30 from a different location. This ride may finish at a pub!

Which group should I ride with?

Our FAST ride is for those who are fit and experienced cyclists. This team are competitive in nature and keen to ‘press on’. Typical ride distance for this team is around 55-65 miles at a pace of around 18mph. There is also currently an early Saturday ride which leaves Aqua Vale at 7.30am. This aims to cover 50 miles at an average of 20mph, ending with a coffee stop.

If you are looking for something a little less intense then our MODERATE group still rides at a reasonably brisk pace however takes a more leisurely approach and is partial to the odd tea and cake stop! Ride distance is typically shorter than the FAST team, around 50-60 miles at a pace of around 15-16mph.

We are always looking for new members to join us and accommodate different abilities wherever.

If, however you are keen to join us but are unsure of your ability, please do get in touch. We may suggest you join us for a Coffee Stop Ride so you can get a feel for our rides without going too far and with the option to come back sooner.  These rides take place April-September on the first Saturday of every month.
